In December 2017, Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) introduced a redesigned website for MTurk Worker customers. Since then, Worker customers have shared thousands of thoughtful and helpful pieces of feedback on this new experience. One frequent request from Workers is to help make finding and accepting HITs even more efficient. Workers tell us that they commonly work on HIT groups with a large number of HITs available. This lets Workers spend time “getting into a groove” with similar HITs and minimize their time searching and discovering new HITs to work on.

For Workers who want to work on HIT groups with a large number of HITs, they have the ability to configure MTurk to automatically accept the next HIT, helping them save time as they transition from one task to the next. But Workers had to remember, on each new HIT group, to check a box indicating to “auto-accept next HIT.” Workers tell us that it’s easy to forget this step, leading to additional, unnecessary clicks and wasted time.

We are pleased to announce that MTurk has made the “auto-accept next HIT” feature checked by default. For Workers who consistently work on large HIT groups, this will remove the need to remember to configure this on each HIT group.

“Auto-accept next HIT” is checked by default

While auto-accepting the next HIT is convenient when working on large HIT groups, sometimes Workers may prefer to disable this (say, when working a smaller HIT group or just trying out a few HITs in a group before deciding to tackle more). Taking this into account, we have built the “auto-accept next HIT” to store and remember each Worker’s preference. In other words, Workers can turn on “auto-accept next HIT” when working on large HIT groups and the Worker site will remember this preference. When Workers uncheck the “auto-accept next HIT” option, it will remain unchecked until checked again. This way, no matter what the situation when working on HITs, Workers can customize “auto-accept next HIT” to match the experience they need.

We hope these improvements will help Workers more easily identify HITs to work on and further increase productivity. We’re grateful for all the ideas, feedback, and support we’ve received from Workers to-date. Workers can continue to share their thoughts and feedback using the “Feedback” link at the bottom of every page on the MTurk Worker site.
